It is thrilling to me, a boomer, to be learning Pro-Tools from a 22 year old. And then to discuss parallels of the 60's and now with him.
I look forward to seeing your YouTube boomer channel. I'm in on cross-promoting boomer generation music/art/thought. My head is spinning from all the new things I'm learning. It's exciting. Now where's my harmonica - I need to practice.Pam Mark Hall ~ Singer/Songwriter/Producerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14857954376191130551noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1446996250081784201.post-46161566403784404692010-01-24T04:52:19.077-06:002010-01-24T04:52:19.077-06:00I'm 51 and so many of my friends my age basica...I'm 51 and so many of my friends my age basically tell me "It's too late for me to learn something new... I'm too old." To which I always respond, "We're just older... we're not dead yet." For awhile I had a guitar student who was 84. She played the guitar a little as a young girl and she felt like life was too short not to play the guitar... I loved her because that's always my approach to new creative stuff too. Even with working 70+ hours a week I figure I can plug away at almost anything 5 minutes at a time. I always am working at learning a new instrument because I figure it's always good for me to remember what it's like to feel like a spaz while I'm learning, like my students do. In the process I taught myself to play multiple instruments a few minutes at a time. One of my goals currently is to get better at keyboards/piano and figure out how to teach it in a way that kids growing up now would enjoy. I figure somewhere along the line it's going to get too weird for me to teach hardcore screamo music on guitar.

I also just set up another channel on youtube to post things for boomers in the future. I would love to see a bunch of us learn to band together to help promote each other's art too. I'm excited to see what happens with all of us and our art.Raw Faith Real Worldhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08741053549418881401noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1446996250081784201.post-20758648264036177832010-01-21T10:00:06.104-06:002010-01-21T10:00:06.104-06:00Linda,

It is wonderful that your students have you as an example that indeed the imperative to create is life long journey. And at times there are detours, and at times the energy to generate "Cash" consumes the energy for the "Sex" creative calling. I thought I was done altogether with music as a career for over 15 years. I focused entirely on making a livelihood to support myself and my daughter. Then I thought - oh it's too late, I'm too old... But no! That is a lie. Many Boomers like me are realizing that creating and getting those songs, paintings, sculptures, books - whatever the form, is not just for the young. It is for all of us, and now that we've been given the marketing tools for Direct to Fan, we parents, grandparents even great grand parents are realizing we are still desired in the creative expression of life on earth.Pam Mark Hall ~ Singer/Songwriter/Producerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14857954376191130551noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1446996250081784201.post-48593848733660784292010-01-21T02:24:28.287-06:002010-01-21T02:24:28.287-06:00When you mentioned the book I was really intereste...When you mentioned the book I was really interested in reading it too. I really enjoyed it. Some books on the creative process I've read seemed annoyingly upbeat and unrealistic. Macleod seems much more like a realist to me. I've spent most of my adult life doing something creative for work... sometimes with other things on the side too. The reality for me is that at the end of the day I can't count on anyone or anything to carry me. I have to focus and do the work. That includes the business part of the work too. I liked what he said about having to make peace with that tension between paying the bills and maintaining a real creative spark too.

I feel like I'm at the beginning of a new season too, where I need to learn to work smarter and not allow the cares of this world to snuff out that creative part of me. I'm very aware of how important it is for me to also model that for my students. They need to know that it's a life time journey to live and continue to create.Raw Faith Real Worldhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08741053549418881401noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1446996250081784201.post-21185775037041981322010-01-18T17:58:53.650-06:002010-01-18T17:58:53.650-06:00J.A.
